Something Must Give

Dear Wonderful people of the Blogosphere,

I don't want to do this, I hate doing this, but recently I forgot to take my kid to his violin lesson twice in a row, I haven't folded laundry in weeks, I have books piling up, and, most significantly, I haven't even tried to write in a month. I blame the fascinating baubles and treasures of the internet, among other distractions.

So I'm going to take three months off from writing this blog, from reading blogs, and from all of it. JRL will keep it going and I might stop by now and then, but for the most part, I'll be offline.

See you in October, if Disney hasn't bought up the entire Internets!

love,
Rhian

Good idea, Rhian, but we'll miss you. It's easy to be in thrall to this damn machine, at the expense of so much else. Happy hiatus, knock those books (and the laundry) out of the park, and see ya when ya come back!

This is a great idea, and one I toy with myself. It's good to see you take the plunge. I hope you get some terrific writing done while you're unhooked! xo, L

I know it would be too narcissistic to think this was my fault somehow but I still feel guilty. But also, like Bloglily, I've been toying with the idea myself, feeling like the balancing plates are starting to crash as I start to increasingly make a fool of myself. It seems a great time of year to take a break, be with your children and write, especially beautiful in upstate New York. Wishing you all the best, clear skies, soaring flight.

When you do come back, using something like Google Reader or another RSS feed reader can help you control the blog-reading habit. If you make a very select list of blogs, then you just read them when they update, and you save lots of time. It's worked for me.

Other than that, enjoy your time off and get lots of writing done. I'll miss your posts and your comments, but I support your decision.

Hope your break is enjoyable and productive, in that order!

Oh, and we promise not to talk about you while you're away...

(Quick, JR, get out the whiskey and the poker table)

You've been fooled into thinking there's a life away from the blogs? Seriously?

While you're away, do you mind looking for my cat?

Enjoy the unplugged world; tell us what it's like.

Like RM said, I'll continue posting while she's on break, I will enlist Ed Skoog's assistance, and will bring in a few guest bloggers as well, starting soon I hope. So there'll be plenty to read, for those who are interested. More soon!

Thanks, all; I'm looking forward to it. WNR -- it's only your fault inasmuch as your blog is too interesting to avoid. So: cold turkey!

You sure this isn't just a gimmick you've thought up to write a memoir about the experience?

Have a lovely summer!

Enjoy your hiatus -- you'll be missed, but I do hope that when you come back, it's with a good sheaf of writing under your belt, and a kid who can double-stop.
