I thought it was an outhouse on its side, pushed over, and I wondered if he was still in there. Assumed a gang of reckless writer rejected rebels hiding in the bushes waiting for the opportune moment tipped it over, then took off, ranting into the night.
My theory about this picture is that the reason the dumpster is on the publisher's spot is because there is no publisher anymore, now that the paper is owned by a megacorporation. At least no publisher that ever visits the building in our town.

That's not enough dumpster for just one publisher....
It's actually for the publisher of the Ithaca Journal, our local paper--his/her parking space happens to be in front of the dumpster.
This publisher appears to have been a little too eager to get to work at least once, judging from the bent pole...
