JRL's new books, Amy's new baby

This is not a promotional blog, but I think it's worth telling our readers whenever one of us puts out a new book. And I've got two of them, coming out this Tuesday. One is a reissue of Pieces For The Left Hand, the 100-stories collection first published in the UK in 2005; the other is a new novel, Castle. You can buy both of them direct from Graywolf here.

There is also going to be a book tour, or more specifically a series of small book jaunts, starting today, here in Ithaca. Schedule is below. I'd love to see a few of you at the readings--if there's one near where you live, stop by and introduce yourself!

Sat Mar 28   3:00pm   The Bookery II, Ithaca, NY
Thu Apr 2   4:30pm   Goldwin Smith Hall, Cornell U., Ithaca, NY
Sun Apr 5   2:00pm   Newtonville Books, Newton, MA
Tue Apr 21   7:30pm   Community Bookstore, Brooklyn, NY
Wed Apr 29   TBA   Powell's Burnside, Portland, OR
Thu Apr 30   7:30pm   Elliott Bay, Seattle, WA
Thu May 28   TBA   Pete's Candy Store, Brooklyn, NY
Tue June 16   7:00pm   Prairie Lights, Iowa City, IA

Finally, big congrats to Moonlight Ambulette, who has produced a Moonlight Ambulino, the latest member of Litblogs: The Next Generation. Congratulations, Amy, she's a peach, and we dare you to name the next one Flannery.

a) "Pieces For The Left Hand" is great. I bought the UK edition and have given several as gifts to pals. As I don't have an MFA I feel okay about raving about the book.

b) I would love to go to any of these readings but am much too far away. Annoying.

c) What's this baby called then? Also, in a few weeks time (not now, deffo not now) I'd recommend Rachel Cusks's great book about having a baby called, "A Life's Work". It makes you feel less mental, or at least one of a band of mental new mothers which is actually better.

The Mini-Moonlighter is called Harper. And thanks, Zoe! If getting an MFA will prevent you from saying I am awesome, don't get one.

Ooh Harper, I like that.

The fact that I wouldn't be able to lord it about town going on about great writers is precisely what put me off getting an MFA. That and the ridiculous cost, obviously.

Dagnabbit, JRL! I'm not going to be around the Greater Boston Area when you're at Newtonville Books.

I'd love to have seen you.

cheers,

Thanks, Shauna--it's going to take months to get my brain back into shape after having twins...

...sorry I will miss you, McC, it's been too long! Send your neighbors to Newton for me though, I don't know too many Bostoners...

Looking for more by the author of "Pieces for the Left Hand" was how I got into this whole blog scene, and what a scene it is! Thanks for making the trek out to Seattle and Portland; we'll see you at Elliot Bay on the 30th. Best wishes for a good tour.

Someone at Graywolf sent me both of your books and I love them, JRL! And I can't tell you how thrilled I am to see that you're coming to Portland. (Your reading is at 7:30, by the way, at the main store on Burnside--I looked on Powell's web site.) That night happens to be my son's fifth birthday, but we'll do our celebrations and he'll go off to bed and I'll go off to your reading. It will be great to see you after all these years. Let's go have a drink afterwards, if you're up to it. I couldn't find you on FB anymore--but email me if you want to make a date. I'll spread the word around Portland too. Congrats!
